VOLUME 1: Poems - The first volume of the complete works of Kalidasa with a new English translation consists of the four poems of the National poet, the authorship of which is generally accepted. The poems are the two Mahakavyas, the Kumarasambhava and the Raghuvamsa; the Meghduta the first message poem in its genre and the Rtusamhara - the description of a cycle of seasons. Each of these poems is presented here based on critical editions in the Devanagari script followed by the English translation so that the reader could easily appreciate the work. A brief introduction giving an account of their contents, commentaries and translations in Indian and foreign languages added here will be helpful for a better appreciation of the poems. Details regarding the author, his date and works are also given in this first volume.
VOLUME 2: Dramas - This second volume of the complete works of Kalidasa with English translation consists of the three dramas of the National poet, which are universally acclaimed. They are the Malavikagnimitra, the Vikramorvasiya and the Abhijnana Sakuntala which is considered as the master-piece. Each of these dramas is presented here based on critical editions in the Devanagari script followed by the English translation so that the reader could easily appreciate the work. A brief introduction giving an account of their contents, commentaries and translations in Indian and foreign languages added here will be helpful for a better appreciation of the dramas.
